Kelsey, from Farmington, Missouri, has reached her senior year at MBU. This spring she will graduate with a degree in Worship Arts and enter into the “real world”. Kelsey has been involved in ministry groups during all four years of her time at MoBap and admits that these groups have created the best memories for her during her college career and provided her with the opportunity to grow both spiritually and musically. This year is especially exciting for her because Shelter is evolving and adding instruments. “I was excited about Shelter last year because it gave me the challenge of learning a new instrument (the djembe) and the opportunity to play as well as sing. This year I am being challenged again with more percussion instruments, but it is also cool because we’ve added violin and cello,” she expressed. She is also enthusiastic about what God is doing in the group already with bringing the girls together and allowing them to minister to one another. When Kelsey is not busy with school related activities, she likes to spend time outside. She also likes the color green, pasta, and hanging out with friends.
Anna Gladden – Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. Psalm 139:23-24 Anna, from Marthasville, Missouri, is a sophomore History major at MBU this year. She attends Charrette Baptist Church, loves to eat fresh food from the garden, likes the color green, has been to England and France, and enjoys reading both historical fiction and non-fiction books. She also loves to visit Steelville, Missouri to visit her parent’s hometown. “It is not really a vacation, but going down to the river or listening to the stories of their (my parents) crazy childhoods is always a fun way to spend the weekend.” When asked why she thought God led her to Shelter and what gifts and talents she brought to strengthen the ministry, she replied, “In some ways I didn’t feel God had necessarily led me to this group. There was a need and I could fill it. As practices go by, I can see where God has worked in my life. I can see where I might fit in to the other girls’ lives and where the simple sound of the cello fills the ensemble.” And, although Anna greatly enjoys music, she would rather serve God in a different capacity. “I would rather serve God by getting my hands dirty in whatever mission I find myself involved in rather than vocally sharing with others. I suppose you can say my passion would be working outside where His awesome creation can always be witnessed.”
Bryanna Hampton – For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died. And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again. II Corinthians 5:14-15 Bryanna lives in St. Peters, Missouri and attends Mid Rivers Christian Church there as well. She is enjoying her second year here at MBU and she is majoring in Communications. When she is not busy with school, Bry enjoys watching “The Office” reading a good book, such as “Gone with the Wind” or satisfying her sweet tooth by way of some Ben and Jerry’s Cinnamon Roll ice cream. When it comes to ministry, Bryanna feels as though she was led to this group to use her musical talent again. “Music has been an area that I used to be so open about but I closed it off for a while because I just wasn’t confident enough. I think God has shown me that it is time to use these gifts again, however big or small, just knowing that it is not for me but for Him,” she explains. She hopes to see each of the Shelter women grow in Christ and bring their individual talents together for His glory. In addition, she would like to see God teach them how to learn from their mistakes and move forward in Him.
Kathleen McDole – Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 Kathleen is in her second year of college at MoBap. However, this is also her final year at MBU as she will be transferring schools next fall to pursue a degree in nursing. Although the women of Shelter will be sad to see her go, they wish her the best of luck. In addition to researching nursing programs in the area, Kathleen is involved in the choir and orchestra at MBU, figure-skating, mission trips, various volunteer work, and Bible study. When asked about her goal in ministry, Kathleen responded, “My goal in ministry is to follow the direction of God, and to communicate Christ’s love to whomever I come in contact with.” She is also passionate about helping others and recognizes that when she helps someone it places her focus on Christ and His plan. Consequently, in the future she sees herself helping people as a profession, “I would like to be working as a pediatric nurse… I would also like to be involved in medical missions.”
Sarah returns to both MBU and Shelter this year. “I am so excited to be able to be a part of Shelter again this year! God has used this group to bless my life in so many ways. I always try to bring my best to this group!” she asserts, and the ladies are glad to have her back as well. Of course, in addition receiving blessings as a result of being in this ministry, Sarah want to share as well, “My passion is music and serving people, and I love any opportunity that I have to do both at the same time!” She would also like to see the women of Shelter serving Christ by sharing their talents and testimonies with others. “I think ministry is a way of life. It is something that as Christians we should strive for daily, always making sure that we are only living to please God and further His kingdom,” she shares. As a bit of a side-note, Sarah always enjoys visiting her aunt and uncle in Florida to relax, listening to her favorite groups such as Relient K and Shane and Shane, and savoring some mint chocolate chip ice cream.
